aboutus
Invicta Trio is a new chamber ensemble formed in 2017 featuring the unique combination of violin, trombone, and piano. The trio is comprised of three doctoral students from the Florida State University College of Music: violinist Taylor Giorgio, trombonist Kenneth Johnson, and pianist Levi Gerke. In addition to serving as graduate teaching assistants, they all have active professional careers in the north Florida region, regularly performing at the First Presbyterian Church of Tallahassee and with the Tallahassee Symphony, Ocala Symphony, Valdosta Symphony, Sinfonia Gulf Coast, and the Gainesville Orchestra.
The repertoire for violin, trombone, and piano trio is extremely limited. Nevertheless, there is significant interest in this instrumentation from performers. As a result, there are several pieces arranged from works for piano or horn trio, but none of them were arranged by the original composers. We are striving to perform music that is written specifically and idiomatically for this interesting combination of timbres. With a genuine interest in performing new works by living composers, Invicta Trio is investing its energy in commissioning composers to write music for their instrumentation. To date, we have commissioned original works or arrangements by Mikeila McQueston, Daniel Schnyder, Chris Neiner, and Frank Gulino. Invicta Trio aims to establish the trombone trio's foundational repertoire through the creation and performance of a body of original works.
Invicta Trio is also committed to community engagement through the presentation of workshops and clinics in north Florida. Our instrumentation permits us to work with students in orchestra, band, and choir, furthering the significance of our educational outreach.
Our 2019-20 season includes performances at local churches and public schools in Tallahassee and the University of Florida, with more concerts to be finalized. In addition, Invicta Trio has worked extensively with professional recording engineer John Hadden through the generosity of the Florida State University College of Music.
